Minya Berry

Minya, a native currant,  is a local favourite! Children love it and get very excited when we sell it around the community. It is very sweet, with a crunchy little seed inside. It makes your tongue go purple.

It grows on shrubs and bushes in the middle of the wet season. Where it grows, it is found in very high density in a small area. The season is fairly short, but everyone in Maningrida knows where to go as soon as the berries are ready!
